March 5, 2010, Newsletter Issue #225: Low Fat Christmas Food Substitutions

Tip of the Week

You can enjoy all of your favorite holiday Christmas food and still maintain you heart-healthy, low-fat diet by making these simple substitutions: 1. One ounce of chocolate can be replaced with 3 tablespoons of cocoa. 2. For a fruity flavor, substitute oil with a comparable amount of applesuace. 3. Sour cream can be replaced with an equal quantity of non-fat, plain yogurt. Start off simply. In order to maintain the flavor of the original, I suggest one substitution per recipe. Remember, a little goes a long way.
